Host apologizes to Obama for breaking his retweet record with her star-studded Oscar pic

Ellen DeGeneres became the queen of Twitter when she took her star-studded selfie at the 2014 Oscars.

Within an hour of her epic selfie post, which featured Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Lupita Nyong'o, Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Jared Leto and Kevin Spacey, it became the most retweeted tweet of all time, taking the title away from President Barack Obama, whose account posted a photo of him hugging First Lady Michelle Obama on reelection night, captioned "Four more years," back on November 6, 2012.

President Obama appeared via satellite on "The Ellen DeGeneres Show" on Thursday (March 20), and after welcoming Obama to the show, Ellen quickly reminded him who is now wearing the Twitter crown.

"I don't know if you know this, but I was aiming to break your record of retweets, and I apologize for doing it," DeGeneres said, "but I broke your retweet record."

Obama was quick on the return, saying he was fully aware of Ellen's retweet victory, and he was not all that impressed.

"I thought it was a pretty cheap stunt myself," he joked. "Getting a bunch of celebrities in the background ... you feeding them pizza."

All kidding aside, Ellen and the president talked about his recent trip to the Gap to pick up some sweaters and about how he will get matching tattoos with his daughters if they ever decide to get some ink. She also asked for his thoughts on the hit D.C.-related television shows "Scandal" and "House of Cards."

"I watch 'House of Cards.' I haven't seen 'Scandal' yet, but Michelle has watched 'Scandal,' " Obama said. "I have to tell ya, life in Washington is a little more boring than displayed on the screen. The truth of the matter is, if you followed me, most of my day is sitting in a room listening to a bunch of folks in gray suits talking about a whole bunch of stuff that wouldn't make very good television."
